Bengithi Lizokuna Summary Pdf Download - https://www.dropbox.com/s/bthmw0q4odp7qkh/bengithi-lizokuna-summary.pdf?dl=0 This book is a personal, individual's account of a teenage girl who was imprisoned in a children's home for ten years. The organization is called Sabaidee and it is located in the kingdom of Swaziland, Africa. The reason for this imprisonment was that, Lizokuna had the rare medical condition called polycystic kidney disease. Lizokuna's story begins at the age of five when she was diagnosed with the disease. She was immediately placed in a children's home where she remained until she left to attend secondary school at sixteen years of age, via the 10+1 program. This program which is based on grade 10, 11 and 12 allows students to leave their secondary school education to continue their education elsewhere, with the option to come back for one day each week. The school Lizokuna attended is one of more than 30 schools in Swaziland that are controlled by Sabaidee or it has some affiliation with them. This is the same organization that she was placed in when she was diagnosed with the disease. Her case was one of many children who had been diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. She describes her mother's reaction to the diagnosis, "My mum did not cry when they told us the news, but the following morning she woke up very early and burned some traditional herbs, hoping that would help us." (29) This event becomes a common occurrence in Lizokuna's story as she becomes more aware of her surroundings while still in Sabaidee. After Lizokuna left Sabaidee to attend secondary school at 16 years of age, her mother begged for her release to return home. However, it was too late as Lizokuna had already been placed in a hostel and had begun her education at the school she would complete her 10+1 at. She returned home for one week before she had to return to school. During that time the only news of the outside world that she was exposed to was from her mother and sister telling her what they had heard on radio and read on newspapers. Lizokuna explains how families today are not necessarily organized up to Western standards: "In our society we live like families. Our homes are not separated from our neighbours with walls or gates. We do not have separate houses for men and women. We do not have separate lodgings for the elderly, the young and the pregnant." (32) Lizokuna explains that families are very close knit and can be described as "closer than any family in the world today." (33) This closeness is due to a lack of government interference or involvement. Lizokuna's story is one of many that occur in Swaziland, Africa. It is a story of a girl who was placed into a children's home from birth. Lizokuna was placed in Sabaidee at a very young age due to her medical condition. cfa1e77820
